My Teaching Philosophy

Education goes beyond the mere transfer of information; education is about engaging students and equipping them to think critically and become lifelong learners. My teaching philosophy revolves around four guiding principles guiding my pedagogical approach in every course.

Firstly, I believe in empowering students to take ownership of their learning and course experience. To accomplish this goal, I engage students in the co-development of the course. Second, I greatly emphasize designing a course to provide students with multiple resources to be successful.

Third, my teaching methodology revolves around using evidence-based teaching techniques to optimize engagement in class. Last, I use a “scaffolding” approach, where I start at a foundational level of learning (e.g., definitions and principles) and build up through examples, modeling, and guided practice, to a higher level of learning (e.g., independent application).

As such, I view teaching as an important skill that requires continuous development and adaptation to changing instructional needs and evidence-based teaching techniques.
